Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask Review

I love a good pamper, I think it's safe to say that it's one of my favourite things.  Retreating to my bathroom with a mountain of products in hand and Youtube on my tablet is one of my happy places, I could disappear for hours.

The one product you just can't forget for a pamper night has to be a facemask and the past few weeks I've found myself going back to the Botanics Shine Away Iconic Clay Mask.

Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask Review

I love a good clay mask, personally I've never been a fan of the peel off masks, I always get them stuck in my eyebrows or play the game of are you ready yet?! Y'know the one, you tug a little, discover it's still gooey on your cheeks and try to stick it back on, but fail badly?!  Yea, that.  They've just never been successful for me.  It's all about the clay masks for me.

Luckily I picked up this little gem when it was over half price off so I figured if it wasn't great, I'd not lose too much but I need not worry.

Although the texture of this mask is a little runny at first, as you build up the product to give a good coverage it seems to sort itself out.  I'd suggest perhaps a good shake of the bottle before squeezing, just to help it along.

The product info on the package tells you to leave it on for 10 minutes, does anyone ever stick to this?  When I'm in pamper mode, these masks can end up on my face for a good half hour at least!!  No wonder I have combination skin :p  I found this mask began to set in certain areas before I had even applied it to my whole face which is good if you're treating yourself to a cheeky quick pamper session.

This mask is suitable for all skin types - the clay formula has willowbark in and apparently that has good clarifying properties.  I'm no scientist or plant expert so I cannot comment on the ingredients but I do know that my skin felt clean, I mean clean, clean.  Cleansed right down to the bottom of my giant pores (ew! TMI?!)

(Hiya...please excuse my messy room)

The mask holds up well and doesn't flake all over you, if you so happen to keep it on a little longer than intended it should stay in place.  It removes easily too, a quick wipe with a flannel or muslin cloth with some hot water reveals fresh, slightly tight and happy skin.

I know a few people are not too keen on clay masks as they can be seen as drying but although this made my face feel tight, it certainly didn't dry out my skin.  I usually suffer with oily areas and this mask made me feel refreshed and pampered - exactly what I want from a face mask.

I've been interested in trying the Origins face masks recently but the price tag had put me off, with this tube being 100ml I know I'll get at least 10 uses from it - I'm hoping more.  Depending on how many uses I get from the tube, I'd certainly consider buying this item when it's back up to full price.

Have you tried any of the Botanics range from Boots?  Or have you tried the pricer Origins option?

Currently on offer in Boots (here) @ £3.00/  Usual price £6.99

  1. This sounds fantastic! I love a good clay mask that leaves the skin feeling refreshed, not dry as you said. I'm not sure if this is available here in Canada but I'd love to try it!
