Rediscovering Old Favourites TV Shows Eyelinerflicks Blog

Recently I've found a gaping hole in my TV induced joy.  Since PLL has gone for it's break and GBBO with Paul's eyelashes have left my screen I've been searching for a replacement to fill the void.
Sure, the new series of Downton helps but I've felt the need for something more.  Something I can get really engrossed in and I've found myself looking blankly at my Virgin Media TV guide as each channel pumps out re-runs of Made in Chelsea and Top Gear.

Not for me, guys, soz.

So once again, I've turned to NETFLIX and gone back to some old favourites.  A few shows that I grew up watching and a few more recent that are also worthy of a mention today.

3rd ROCK FROM THE SUN
Can we all just take a moment to reflect on how well Joseph Gordon-Levitt grew up?!  And I can't watch John Lithgow without thinking of Santa Claus The Movie which means even while I watch a comedy show about aliens living on earth I'm still thinking about Christmas!  CHRISSSTMAAAS!
3rd Rock is probably where my love for all things Sci-Fi started - I remember watching this when I was still in primary school (oh so long ago) and it was just SO funny.
It also introduced the J.G-Levitt/ Larisa Oleynik partnership that then went on to go big with 10 Thing's I Hate About You!
NETFLIX has SIX seasons too and with episodes being only around 25 minutes each, they are ideal for y'know, watching in the bath or while getting ready for work in the morning.

RED DWARF
A Great British Classic and there's no denying it!
With eight seasons over on NETFLIX for you to catch up on you'd never be short of terrible special effects to laugh at or an endless array of insults to pick up.
Sure, it could be considered one of those shows you can watch on the likes of Dave on repeat but I find they play the one series on there over and over.  It's a bit odd.
Red Dwarf will always be a show I'll go back to, time and time again and I cannot recommend it enough(apart from season 7) it has relatable characters, albeit they are slightly out-there and for it's time it was such an original and funny concept.  Generally laugh out loud moments - the writing is just incredible.

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE
Ok, I'll admit this is a bit of a cheat as it's really not that old, but if you've never watched Brooklyn99 you need to change that right now!  It's such an easy watch.  Again short 25 minute episodes with hilarious characters.  NETFLIX only have the first season right now but you can catch season 2 on E4 and season 3 is currently playing in the US.
You'll get to follow the life of Saturday Night Live's Andy Samberg as he plays a very immature cop and watch my serious woman-crush - Stephanie Beatriz.
Light-hearted and easy to pick up when you need a giggle.

Have you rediscovered any old favourites recently?  Or have you found a new series you think I should check out?

  1. I agree there's nothing better sometimes than going back and revisiting old favourites. Mine would definitely be Friends and Only Fools and Horses. Gotta love a bit of Red Dwarf too! :)
