Food | New Kid On The Block: Kitchen Trotter

I've been on a hunt recently for some new and exciting monthly subscription boxes to try, I wanted to keep my wee postman on his toes y'see and when the lovely folk over at Kitchen Trotter asked if I'd like to try out one of their monthly subscription boxes, I just KNEW he'd love delivering me some new goodies.

So bright and early this morning I received my first Kitchen Trotter Box*.  Priced at £29.99 for a one off box it is on the higher end of the price scale for a monthly subscription box but they do have some offers if you were to sign up to a 6 or 12 month plan (see here).

As you've probably guessed Kitchen Trotter is a foodie subscription box and I was super excited to see what was inside my package and discover which theme this month would be hiding inside.  January 2016 for me is Indonesia and my box was jam packed with 7 interesting products I'd never heard of (plus an hourglass kitchen timer...oh yea! I love a kitchen gadget, I do!) Oh and I can't forget the little menu book too.

All of the items I received are things you can store in your kitchen cupboards - so no risk of the items going off in transit.  I'm not going to lie, I was a little taken aback with some of the items, it's not your normal beans and ketchup cupboard kinda staples but I'm intrigued by some of the suggested recipes on the menu card.

Inside my extremely well packaged box I received:

Gado Gado Mix - a peanut base mix which I think should be quite similar to a satay
Combava Leaves - these have a really citrusy scent and seem very interesting

Terasi  - Ams Koe Poe - a fermented prawn paste...I'm not too sure about this one to be honest, it sounds a little bit....ew?
Kepap Manis - Bango - a thick soy sauce...can never go wrong with soy sauce
Citronelle Lemon Grass Powder - I'm sure I could use this in A LOT of dishes I already make so I'm happy with this addition
Kemiri Nuts - These look like hazelnuts but taste COMPLETELY different.
Pandan Aroma -  Wanna turn some food green?  This stuff looks really fun, Pandan is a tasty plant that smells almost vanilla'y.

My other half is very plain in his eating habits, he likes a lot of spice but we tend to stick to the same dishes most of the time.  The menu inside this box has some really exciting dish recommendations Gado-Gado, Mie Goreng, Ayam Areh, and Kue Dadar Gulung and I'm hoping I can pull together a few of these and persuade him to step out of his comfort zone.

Fancy trying Kitchen Trotter for yourself?  They are offering £10 off their first 100 boxes with the code: HELLOUK

  1. This is such a good idea but maybe a bit too pricey for me!
