Tarte Make Up

Are you a Tartlet?

A few weeks ago Tarte had an offer on that I couldn't refuse and I think if you read on you'll see why.

Y'see I had never actually tried Tarte Cosmetics before but I had dabbled on their site on a regular basis, so when an email popped into my inbox telling me all about an amazing offer they were running, I dropped my slice (whole box) of pizza and logged into their website right away.

It took me a bit too long to decide on my chosen items and actually click "complete purchase" in the end that a few of my first options had sold out so I had to go back and choose again but I figured 7 items for £56 with International Shipping and taxes all included was an investment, right?!

The deal consisted of: a make up bag, foundation, concealer, eyeliner, mascara, blush and lip product.

What I went for:
  • A super cute blue and green mermaid print cosmetic bag
  • Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation in shade Porcelain  £33
  • Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in shade Light £23
  • Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in shade Blushing Bride (rosy pink) £25
  • Sex Kitten Eyeliner in Black £19
  • Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara in Black  £21
  • Tarteist ™ Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in the shade Pillowtalk (white nude) £17

There's a been a huge buzz around the Shape Tape Foundation since it's launch that I really wanted to try it and the fact the foundation alone is usually £33, I figured why not try 5 other products and get a make up bag too, for just a little extra.

I normally buy my foundation etc in-store so I can be sure the shade is right for my skin etc but since Tarte is only available via QVC in the UK or direct from their own US website, I had to just hope for the best in this case.

The verdict:

Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation in shade Porcelain
I went for the Hydrating foundation as my shade in the matte version was out of stock and I got a little too excited to miss out on a good deal so I think my opinion on this product is going to be a bit tainted by the fact that I prefer a matte foundation.

First impressions -  It's a mixed bag.

The sturdy 30ml glass bottle has a huge doe foot applicator which I personally find awkward to use and I wonder how I'm going to get the product out of the bottom of the bottle, if you have any advice on this, please direct it my way.

The shade Porcelain is not a bad match for me, it's a little yellow toned but I can work with it.  The formula is quite thick but I'm used to that as I'm a Estée Lauder Double Wear girl normally.

But the staying power is an issue for me.  I have combination skin, still some breakouts, dry patches and large pores.  Unless I use a heck of a lot of powder with this product it just doesn't stay in place and tends to break down on my skin throughout the day.  I'm not giving up though, I'm going to continue to use this, I'm determined to find a way to make it work well for me so I'm sure it'll appear here on the blog again in future.

Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in shade Light
Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in shade Light

Well this one could be true love.
This is most full coverage concealer I've ever tried in my life and although that's not always needed, for days when I don't want to wear a full face of foundation, the tiniest bit of this creamy formula goes such a long way.

Thi product has now been repackaged as "Creaseless Concealer.

Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in shade Blushing Bride (rosy pink)
When I first swatched this I can't say I was too excited.  I was hoping for a little more colour pay-off.  As you can see below, it's a very light, rosy pink but the more I use this product, the more I fall in love with it.  It's gives a very natural, flush to the cheeks and has firmly become my go-to blush now as it blends out wonderfully.
Plus, very little fall out on the product which is win, win too.

Tarte Make Up Lip paint

Tarteist ™ Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in the shade Pillowtalk (white nude)

Now I'm not gonna lie, this one just doesn't do it for me at all.  All the good options in the offer had sold out by the time I hit "buy" so I just added the first lip product I saw.

The Tarteist ™ Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in the shade Pillowtalk is comfortable to wear, glides on the lips beautifully but the shade is just not for me.  I'll certainly be on the look out for other, darker shades in future though.

The Sex Kitten Eyeliner in Black which retails for £19 alone.
I love a good gel liner and was well overdue a new one for this was a very welcome addition to my bargain kit.

This liner applies smoothly with no tug to the lids and is said to be triple-black pigment.  It's black, black which is perfect  I hate when a liner says it's black but applies greyish on the lids.

Waterproof and smudgeproof, it's become my daily liner as it's so easy to use and comfortable to wear.  It's ideal for tight lining and also has a built in smudger to help smoke your look.

Last up, the Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara in Black - alone retails for £21.

I'd heard such great things about this mascara over the years but just never had the chance to try it, as I had a pretty well stocked mascara collection thanks to years of beauty subscription boxes but I just needed to try this one so I was very happy that I could add it to my bargain deal.

It's true what I've read about this mascara, it's so worth trying.

It's all the good mascaras rolled into one; curling, lengthening, volumizing and conditioning, this is one I'll certainly be repurchasing as it grabs every lash and separates them beautifully.

Also comes in a waterproof version.

Overall for £56 and my first bash with some Tarte products it's been a mixed bag.  I love the blush, concealer, liner and mascara.  My cosmetics bag is super cute but the lip paint is not my shade and the foundation has been a bit of a disappointment so far but I'll work with it.

Tarte do offers like this very often so if, like me you're interest in trying out the brand, I'd highly recommend signing up to their mailing list to hear all about the offers as soon as they are announced.

I'm glad I didn't buy all my products at full price as they didn't all work out for me but for £56 I couldn't be happier with what did work.

Things to note about Tarte - All their products are Vegan and always formulated without: Parabens • Mineral Oil • Phthalates • Triclosan • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate • Gluten

Postage from their US site to the UK took around 9 working days, apparently this is longer than usual and that was due to the special offer they had now and the demand at the time.  All taxes etc were included in the £56 offer.

Have you tried any Tarte products yet?  If so, could you recommend me some?
